Abstract:
Sci-tech journals increasingly reveal a structural imbalance between economic and social effects in their pursuit of unified outcomes, reflecting profound contradictions between public value and market logic in the realm of knowledge production. Humanistic economics provides theoretical guidance for resolving the contradiction between the social and economic effects of sci-tech journals, facilitating the effective promotion of their "dual effects" and advancing the high-quality development of sci-tech journals.
The paper employs the theory of humanistic economics to elucidate the unified connotation of the "dual effects" in sci-tech journals, and proposes the intrinsic logic and specific development pathways for achieving this unity, addressing the key challenges faced by sci-tech journals in realizing the "dual effects" integration.
Research findings indicate that, from the perspective of humanistic economics, the essence of the "dual effects" integration of sci-tech journals lies in the dialectical integration of humanistic values and economic laws. By addressing individual knowledge demands, collective cultural rights claims, and the pursuit of human civilization progress, sci-tech journals can transition from being mere intermediaries of knowledge dissemination to cultural entities with composite functions such as knowledge services, social leadership, and cultural heritage preservation, ultimately achieving an organic fusion and synergistic coexistence of social and economic benefits. However, sci-tech journals in China face several major challenges, including the deviation from their academic service essence due to an impact factor-oriented approach, the dual burden of digital technology investment and economic returns, the paradigm clash between traditional subscription models and open access, and the conflict between market regulatory requirements and disorderly competitive behaviors. These issues hinder the effective advancement of the "dual effects" integration of sci-tech journals. From an internal logic perspective, it is necessary to reconstruct the positioning of sci-tech journals with human development as the core, innovate the digital operation mode of sci-tech journals in accordance with industrial laws, and uphold the concept of sustainability to transform the development mode of sci-tech journals.
Based on the analysis results, a specific pathway for the development of "dual effects" integration of sci-tech journals is proposed, including reconstructing the symbiotic mechanism between academic value and market demand, reshaping the deeply integrated operational model of science and technology with humanities, and rebuilding a sustainable and virtuous development framework. This aims to promote a positive cycle where academic value drives market recognition and economic benefits contribute to social welfare, fostering an academic ecological community that combines humanistic warmth with industrial vitality, thereby further enhancing the implementation effectiveness of the "dual effects" integration.
