Abstract:
In the process of promoting the integration of economic and social benefits, sci-tech journals are increasingly confronted with structural imbalances between the two dimensions, reflecting a profound contradiction in the field of knowledge production between public value and market logic. Humanistic economics provides theoretical guidance for resolving the tension and achieving the unity of social and economic benefits of sci-tech journals, thereby facilitating their "dual benefits" integration and high-quality development.
This paper applies humanistic economics theory to clarify the connotation of the unity of "dual benefits" of sci-tech journals, identifies the major challenges currently faced by the journals, and proposes the intrinsic logic and concrete development pathways for achieving this integration.
The findings reveal that, from the perspective of humanistic economics, the essence of the "dual benefits" integration of sci-tech journals lies in the dialectical integration of humanistic values and economic laws. By responding to individual knowledge demands, collective cultural rights claims, and the pursuit of human civilization progress, sci-tech journals can transform from being merely intermediaries of knowledge dissemination into cultural entities with composite functions such as knowledge service, social leadership, and cultural inheritance, ultimately achieving the organic integration and synergistic coexistence of social and economic benefits.
However, sci-tech journals in China face several key challenges: deviation of impact factor orientation from their essence of academic service; dual burdens of digital technology investment and economic returns; paradigm clash between traditional subscription models and open access; and contradictions between market regulatory requirements and disorderly competitive practices. These constraints hinder the effective advancement of the "dual benefits" integration of sci-tech journals.
From an internal logic perspective, it is necessary to reconstruct the positioning of sci-tech journals with human development at the core, innovate digital operation models of sci-tech journals in accordance with industrial laws, and uphold the concept of sustainability to transform the development mode of sci-tech journals.
Based on the analysis, the following specific pathways for the development of "dual benefits" integration of sci-tech journals are proposed: reconstructing a symbiotic mechanism between academic value and market demand; reshaping an operation model that deeply integrates science and technology with humanities; and rebuilding a sustainable and collaborative development framework. These measures aim to foster a virtuous cycle in which academic value drives market recognition and economic benefits, in turn, nourish social welfare. Ultimately, they contribute to building an academic ecological community that combines humanistic warmth with industrial vitality, thereby further enhancing the implementation effect of the "dual benefits" integration.
